DOT-Lok ™ is a transmission Shift Inhibitor designed for vehicles with electric shift transmissions like those found on most new model forklifts.  DOT-Lok reduces repair expenses associated with transmission abuse, torque converter failure, drive axle failure, flex plate damage, planetary shock load and tire wear.  Like SSC's TRANS-STOP product line, DOT-Lok requires operators stop or slow vehicles prior to shifting the transmission to change vehicle direction.

DOT-Lok goes HI-TECH

The brains behind the original DOT-Lok brake sensing and speed sensing kits is an Electronic Control Module.  While the systems based upon this design continue to help many, a new microprocessor based DOT-Lok MP system is now available.  The results of this new design are impressive.

DOT-Lok MPE FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

DOT-Lok MPE prevents forklift operators from enabling a drive gear if the vehicle land speed and/or engine RPM level is too high. The transmission engages a gear, only when the throttle is low enough and the delay time has elapsed. The delay allows the engine to rev down before shifting occurs. DOT-Lok interfaces directly to the vehicle APPS sensor if the vehicle is equipped with electronic throttle (Drive by Wire). DOT-Lok MP can be fitted on vehicles with mechanical throttle linkages by adding a limit switch. The standard DOT-Lok system defaults the transmission into NEUTRAL when shifting outside set shift ranges. By enabling the optional Engine Braking feature, the transmission remains in the gear for which the truck is traveling and the engine automatically idles down utilizing engine assisted braking.  By enabling the optional Seat Switch Lockout, the transmission automatically shifts into Neutral when the operator leaves the vehicle with the engine running and transmission engaged (soon to be required on all new fork trucks in the USA).

DOT-Lok TRACTION
DOT-Lok Speed Sensitive Shifting is available as a stand-alone product or can be purchased with Traction Control.  DOT-Lok Traction Control gives you all the features of the standard Speed Sensitive Shifting unit plus traction control.  Traction Control prevents the drive tires from free spinning when a forklift operates on slick surfaces such as ice, oil, water, dust and ash covered surfaces.  The system further limits tire spinning when the inching pedal is dumped at high engine RPMs.  Please Note: In the above video, soap and water was spread across the floor.

DOT-Lok MP Controller
  FEATURES include:
  • User programmable settings
  • Shift light (Optional)
  • Plug-n-Play installation
  • Direct interface to Vehicle APPS Sensor
         -Adaptability on older model         trucks
  • Utilizes existing vehicle speed sensor
-if sensor is inductive or NPN       style
  • Engine braking (Optional)
  • Auxiliary Switch Lockout
  • Visual LED indicators
uCAL PROGRAMMING KIT
The uCal for DOT-Lok MP programmer is available for purchase or rental. The programmer comes with all necessary cables and software. This provides an intuitive user interface where programming parameters can be stored to and retrieved from Disk. Programming parameters can also be printed on paper.

PROGRAM MABLE VALUES
  • Shift speeds - GO/NO GO shift speeds
  • Shift delays – time between when all shift parameters are “GO” to when transmission shifts
  • Throttle control option – transmission will not shift when engine RPM is above set limits
  • Throttle delays – allows mass of engine to return to idle before shifting
  • Engine braking  (Optional) – when shifting above accepted set travel speed, vehicle stays in gear (of current travel direction) and
  •
automatically reduces engine speed to selected settings (slightly above idle) thus using engine assisted braking to help slow truck.
  • Auxiliary Switch Lockout - automatically defaults transmission in Neutral when operator vacates driver's seat with engine running and transmission engaged or the inching pedal is depressed for an extended period of time..

    STANDARD DOT-LOK SYSTEMS
    DOT-Lok Brake Sensing DOT-Lok Speed Sensing (S3)

The standard DOT-Lok system requires fork truck operators apply brake pressure prior to shifting the transmission out of or through Neutral.  By requiring operators stop or slow the vehicle with brake pressure rather than with the transmission, DOT-Lok reduces shock load damage caused by abusive shifting techniques.  WANT SAFETY?  DOT-Lok doubles as a transmission interlock, thus preventing accidental shifting.  With the engine running, a box hitting or a sleeve catching on the shift selector will not shift the transmission into a drive gear unless the operator has his or her foot on the brake pedal.  The exact amount of pressure needed is your decision - it's adjustable.

Because of its simple design and all inclusive kits, normal installation time is under one hour (Installation Guide).

Most  fork trucks are built to handle a reasonable amount of plugging.  DOT-Lok S3 allows this to continue, but within set limits.  With DOT-Lok S3, the truck stays dynamic.

Like the standard DOT-Lok system, DOT-Lok S3 reduces driveline problems and tire wear.  It does so by requiring vehicle speeds be within an acceptable range before allowing the transmission to shift directions.  The acceptable range is adjustable, but falls within 1-4 MPH approximately.
