SSC's PED-Lok T Loading Brake System automatically applies the vehicle's service brakes when the automated lights are flashing and the loading door opens.  This ensures the bus is secure during loading/unloading and does NOT rely upon the driver to do anything outside their normal drive routine.  In the absence of an automatic brake system, some drivers could  forget to utilize the SPB as written in their State.

Further,  fatigue caused by the setting and releasing of the SPB may result in some driver's unconsciously electing not to follow proper operating procedures.  In either case, if an accident occurs, the liability issue is raised.

OHIO APPROVED - After a 15-month field  test of SSC's PED-Lok loading brake system, the State of Ohio's Construction Standards Board unanimously approved the use of loading brake systems on Ohio school buses.  PED-LokT benefits go beyond the obvious safety issues.  It also reduces the potential for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome by reducing the number of times a driver pushes in and pulls out the dash parking brake valve.  Modified PED-Lok Loading Brake is New York approved.   The New York approved system works just like the standard system, but to release the brakes the driver must first close the loading door and then press a dash mounted "release" button.  New - Oklahoma joins the PED-Lok "Approved" list.
Self-Contained PED-Lok Box

PED-Lok now comes standard with " radio mute ".  SSC's latest control module removes power to the AM/FM radio when the PED-Lok brakes are applied.  This removes a possible driver distraction during the loading sequence.

PED-LOK SPB (Interlock)
SSC also has an airbrake interlock system available. PED-LokT SPB automatically "pops" the dash parking brake valve as required. For instance, PED-LokT SPB can be triggered by deployment of a wheelchair lift or opening of a loading door. Once set, the SPB must be manually released, but only after all monitored sensors are in a safe position. In other words, if the PED-LokT SPB is activated when the wheelchair lift is deployed, the SPB can not be released until the lift is stowed.
PED-LOK SPB (Loading Brake)
PED-Lok SPB as a loading brake is very similar to the standard PED-Lok loading brake. The primary difference is that PED-Lok SPB automatically sets the Spring Park Brake instead of applying air to the service brakes. Once set, the loading door must be closed in order for the driver to manually push-in the Spring Park Brake valve.
